Pine & Quill is an independent publishing house in Gdańsk. We publish essays, nature writing, poetry and translated fiction — books that take their time.
Why we exist
We print in small runs because we want to read closely.
We started Pine & Quill in 2018 with one book and a borrowed printer. We wanted to make the kind of books we kept reaching for: thoughtful, well-made, a little quieter than the market.
We are three people, a designer, a printer and a growing shelf. We work with authors and translators across Europe, and we publish a handful of titles each year.
Every book is edited, designed and proofed by the same small team. That is the point.

Ewa Król
Publisher & Editor
Ewa founded Pine & Quill in 2018. She edits essays and nonfiction, and keeps the list honest.
Tomasz Bąk
Design & Production
Tomasz designs the books and manages print. He cares about paper more than is strictly reasonable.
Nadia Weiss
Translations & Rights
Nadia works with translators and foreign publishers, and edits our translated fiction.
Katarzyna Lis
Marketing & Sales
Kasia looks after bookshops, review copies and the newsletter. She knows where every title lives.

How we work.
Take your time
Good books are not rushed. We edit, proof and print with the patience the work deserves.
Make it useful
A book should leave the reader with something: a question, a practice, a way of looking.
Pay people properly
Authors and translators are paid an advance and royalties. This is not a hobby for them.
Keep the list small
We publish a handful of titles each year so every book gets the attention it needs.
